Rooted cabal that held the State hostage for more than eighty years.
Your Excellency would gladly agree. with us that it is one thing to Liberate a people but another thing to consolidate on the gains of Liberation. Movement for Abia- Re Union is pleased to note that Your Excellency’s emancipation.-of. our people has gradually, consistently and systematically been translating to wider economic opportunities for us. ‘ After all, what do people look for in a Government other than the creation of empowerment that can readily convert to food on their tables?
It is said that the test of the budding is in the eating. Your Excellency, Sir, with what we have frankly and verifiably adumbrated, we want to say, very proudly, that our overt claim that Your Excellency have done well has been justified beyond any iota of doubt ‘.
At this juncture, we humbly want to inform Your Excellency that the decision of Abia State Executive Council to transfer Non-Indigenes working in the public service of the state to their respective States of origin .is a decision well thought out and taken. We therefore, associate ourselves whole heartedly with that very important and forthright administrative decision.
As usual, many reasons account for our support for that decision. In the first
instance, the method adopted by your government in handling this issue
manifests a government that has conscience and a human face. By personally
writing to the governors of the affected States to appreciate the circumstances
that have compelled the State Government to take this decision.
And therefore be magnanimous enough to absorb their transferred indigenes, it
has certainly shown your government as being compassionate. This decent approach is quite different from the modus operandi adopted in sacking indigenes of Abia state nine years ago by the governments of Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
We want to recall the fact that Abia State has been on the receiving end of dislocation in labour market for quite sometime now. The secreterian turmoil in some parts of Northern Nigeria ended up forcing many public servants of Abia extraction working in those states home.
It has to be stated that Abia State Government absorbed all their indigenes summarily dismissed by the states earlier mentioned and did same to those who
ran home from the North.
Worthy of mention is the fact that Abia State government absorbed her dismissed and dislocated indigenes into her public service without resorting to crying wolf. Even only recently, Imo State Government bundled the files of her pensioners of Abia extraction, back to Abia State. Yet these Abians had lived and worked in Imo, with all their taxes paid to the government of Imo.
As usual with Abia State Government, these forcibly evacuated pensioners
have, quietly and patriotically, been accepted by Abia State government,
Including the financial implication. The consequence of this unexpected and
unbudgeted influx of public service returnees into the public service of Abia
state has been very obvious and of course, over bearingly burdensome. These
developments sky rocketed the wage bill of the state and, unfortunately,
without a correspondent increase in her revenue.
Meanwhile, a multitude of unemployed Abians are roaming the streets of Abia searching for employment We appreciate Your Excellency’s concern for these Abians. Equally important is the legitimate demand of public servants in Nigeria that they be paid a minimum wage of eighteen thousand naira. Our Movement is happy that Your Excellency have accepted to pay the said sum and have started working on modalities that would guarantee effective implementation of the new minimum wage.
In as Your Excellency, being a labour friendly Governor, have willingly accepted the pecuniary implication it would, inevitably, have on the
Arising from, the above reasons and facts brilliantly, explicitly and incontrovertibly stated, Movement For Abia Re-Union heartily wishes to express her solidarity with Your Excellency in Your magnanimous, very refined and decent approach in the long overdue transfer of service of non-indigenes to their respective home states. ,
The Movement, therefore, wishes to use this forum to urge all Abians to continue to give maximum support to Governor Theodore Ahamefule Orji in his determination to transform the State while those who are busy insinuating misconceptions against the state government’s masses’-friendly policy decisions on transfer of service of non-indigenes are called upon to think twice and allow peace and progress reign in God’s Own State.
Long live Ochendo!
Long live Abia State!! , and
Long live Nigeria!!!
