The State government will today February 2nd 2017, play host to the team from the office of the Vice President and the Federal Ministry of Health for the “Train The Trainers” workshop, as part of the series of trainings to prepare the state for the launching of the comprehensive home grown school Feeding Programme.

This programme is being organized by the federal government in collaboration with the state government, aimed at providing free lunch to pupils of public primary schools across the entire state.

The programme is targeting over 200, 000 pupils, and will also provide full time employment for over 1200 women mostly in rural communities.

When fully operational, this programme will revolutionise rural economies, improve food production, enhance the quality of health of children. It will also increase school enrollment.

Appreciating the level of Abia State’s preparedness, the leader of the Federal government team Mr Bayo Bankole applauded the Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu for their passion and commitment to address the challenges faced by the poor in the society.

He noted that the Vice President is very encouraged by the robust support the Governor has given for the full implementation of the social investment programme in the state. He also expressed appreciation to Mr Chinenye Nwaogu the state Focal Person for his untiring efforts to ensure that the State benefits from all the Social Investment programmes.

He commended his strong representation of the state at the Federal level based on reports available in the Vice President’s office, Abia State is among the pilot states for all the social investment programmes.

The wife of the Governor who walked into the training session thanked the Federal government especially the office of the Vice President for their renewed interest in Abia State, She urged all the participants to pay attention to the training to ensure seamless implementation of the programme. She assured the FG team of Abia hospitality and the states readiness to partner with the Federal Government for the well being of her citizens.

The training will have in attendance The State Multisectoral team drawn from the Ministries of Women Affairs, Trade and Investment, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Education, Health, Agriculture, office of the Wife of the Governor.

Also in attendance are Health Officers, Environmental Health Officers from the 17 Local Government Areas and other key stakeholders. The state Focal person Chinenye Nwaogu assured the Federal government team of the State’s readiness to fully implement the programme.
