The Abia State Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Obinna Oriaku stated immediately after meeting with the Labour leaders in the State that Abia State received the total sum of Five Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifteen Million Naira in the second tranche of the Paris Club refunds from the Federal Government instead of the expected Thirteen Billion Naira.
According to the Finance Commissioner, the State had expected the sum 13 billion Naira which was initially declared by the Governor as funds to be used to clear all salary arrears and pensions. The Commisioner, however, stated that the Governor had directed that the 5.7 Billion should be committed to the payment of outstanding worker’s salary. As conveyed by the Commisioner for finance, the Governor thanked the Labour leaders for their understanding and cooperation, promising them that the directive to fully utilized the funds for salary payment will be wholly implemented.
