The attention of The Abia State Ministry of Health has been drawn to a newspaper publication in Guardian newspapers, authored by one Gordy Udeaja to the effect that Abia effectively has cases of Lassa fever.
This is clearly a mischievious distortion of the news conference by the Hon Commissioner for Health to which Mr Udeaja representing Guardian news attended.
The correct situation till date is that:
1. 7 suspected cases of Lassa Fever
2. 4 of the suspects tested negative.
3. 1 suspect died, but test sample came back negative.
4. 2nos did not meet the case definition for lassa fever and have since been discharged, alive and well.
There is therefore no case of Lassa Fever in Abia State as at today.
We do hope that Mr Udeaja takes proper steps to correct his mis-information to the public.
Dr. John Ahukannah
Hon. Comm Health
