The wife of the Governor of Abia State Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has paid hospital bills for about 20 indigent nursing mothers who were delivered of their babies at Nwaodaku Memorial Hospital and Maternity, Ihie, Ugwunagbo and Seventh Day Adventist Hospital Motherless Babies Homes, Ogbor Hill, Aba in the spirit of Children’s Day celebration.
Mrs Ikpeazu used the opportunity to give them gifts and checked the welfare of baby Grace who was abandoned in a bush at Ossah-ukwu in Obingwa LGA who was picked and taken to SDA motherless babies home, Aba by the First Lady.
Speaking at the hospital, the First Lady thanked God for the gift of children and their safe delivery, she pointed out that twins given to the physically challenged parents Mr and Mrs Chikwem Daniel Nwaokoro at Nwaodaku Memorial Hospital is evidence that God is not partial.
Mrs Ikpeazu described children as future leaders of this Country that should be given a sense of belonging through the children’s day celebration and trained to become good ambassadors of the nation.
She reiterated that the present administration attaches great importance to promoting the welfare of children and commended the medical personnel in their effort for safe delivery and reduction of maternal mortality rate in the society.
In their speeches, the chief medical directors of Nwoddw Hospital/Maternity Ihie, Dr. Nwaobilor Godwin and the Chief Medical Director of SDA Hospital and Motherless Babies Home, Dr Elekwa Uche, thanked the wife of the Governor for her compassionate gesture towards their class of people and prayed God to bless her.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries Mrs Anuihu Chinyere, expressed gratitude to the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu and prayed for God’s wisdom upon her.
