The wife of the Governor of Abia State Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has described the official visit of the Assessment team of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund from the Office of the Hon.Minister of Health, as timely and essential.
Mrs Ikpeazu made this statement during an interactive session with the team from Federal Ministry of Health, National health Insurance scheme and National Primary Healthcare Development Agency,led by the Special Assistant to the Minister of Health, Dr Oyebanjo Filani.
The First lady expressed that her utmost desire was to see a reduction in Maternal and Child Mortality as well as an improved Healthcare centres and assured the team of the Governor’s deep commitment to the success of the programme because they place premium on issues of Healthcare.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the team, Dr Oyebanjo Filani, stated that Abia places great value on Social welfare and on the well-being of its people and disclosed that the reason for the visit was to assess the readiness of the State for the programme.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr John Ahukanna who accompanied the team stated that Abia was blessed to be among the three States selected as the pilot State for the scheme.
In a vote of thanks the Board Chairman Primary Healthcare Abia State,Dr Madu Awa, thanked the Wife of the Governor for giving them audience while believing that the programme will be a success.
The wife of the Deputy Governor lady Vivienne Ude Okochukwu, Hon.Commissioners,and top Government functionaries graced the occasion.
