The wife of Abia State Governor Her Excellency Chief (Mrs.) Mercy Odochi Orji has distributed gift items like bags of rice, salt, beans, treated mosquito nets, cartons of beverages, toiletries, cosmetics, detergent among others to 34 less-privileged homes in the State. The beneficiaries among many others include; Uzuakoli motherless Babies home, Ahieke Ndume Umuahia, Agape Orphanage Old-Umuahia, Nigeria prisons Umuahia, School of the Blind Afara Umuahia.
Addressing the homes at the In-door Sports Hall Stadium Umuahia, Chief (Mrs.) Orji reiterated that the gesture it is in keeping with the Ochendo administration, personal resolve and commitment to make dividends of democracy available to all Abians.
According to the report filed by our Government House correspondent, the wife of the Governor said that the present government is a friend of the destitute and orphans and has as part of its policy thrust of being responsive to all categories of Abians irrespective of party affiliation but strongly avowed to the delivery of dividends of democracy in food items and material items to the poor in the society.
She called on the physically challenged persons in the society to turn their disabilities into abilities by learning different crafts and trades that will help them become self-reliant, create wealth and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the society.
Chief (Mrs.) Orji assured that her office through complementary roles in governance will continue to better the lives of the vulnerable groups in the society adding that the philanthropists, the organized private sector and government are enjoined to continue catering for the downtrodden
Speaking on behalf of the groups, the Chairman of the Joint National Association of persons with disabilities Abia State Chapter Mr. Stanley Onyebuchi thanked the wife of the Governor Chief (Mrs.) Mercy Odochi Orji for regularly supporting and uplifting the welfare of the less privileged and prayed for success of the government.
The wife of the Governor was accompanied during the distribution of the items by the Deputy Governorís wife Lady Nene Emeka Ananaba.
